memories for a lifetime
Ask any adult their foundest memories and inevitably they will begin to recount their high school years. The friendships made, the relationships ecountered and the events which take place during those brief four years leave a permanent impression in everyones memory. Although most teen age students fail to realize it at the time, these years will always be looked back at as the best years of their lives, and the events which they have lived through will be a source of enjoyment for the rest of their lives. The current run that the Rosehill football team is on will be one of those events. Saturday night the Eagles took an unprecidented step in the history of the school, advancing to the state semi finals. Under horrific conditions, the Eagles thoroughly trounced the Crusaders of Round Rock Christian 22-6, and stepped into unknown territory for any Eagle squad. Coach Chris May had his boys ready to play, and they did not dissapoint the drentched Eagle faithful. The conditions were aweful, but the outcome was terrific. Once again the press box was the place to be, and the observations were numerous.
-Exactly who did Rosehill make mad to deserve a 134 mile drive into the middle of nowhere to play a football game. At last count 43 football fields were passed on the way to Buckholts. Was there that much football being played in late November.
-Every succesfull football team has to be able to run the ball. Round Rock came out throwing, but due to good defense and terrible weather conditions, they were unable to muster any offense. Rosehill stuck to their usual "boring" ground game, commited no turn overs, and won the game. Props to Coach May, Foote and Eckstrum for designing an all weather offense.
- The Cheerleaders once again earned their keep. They braved the weather, figured out how to stay out of the mud, and cheered the Eagles on to victory. Although the players may not admit it, they really appreciate all that you do.
-Paul Ashe was missed this week. Ironically on the wettest day of the year the faithfull Rosehill H2O specialist was not with his team.....Our prayers are with you Paul, and we look forward to seeing you this weekend.
-Ryan Eckstrum may have delivered the hardest hit of the season. On the only punt of the game, Ryan met the Round Rock returner on the far side of the field and delivered a punishing blow. Word is that the RR player will be eating his Thanksgiving diner through a straw this year.
-Matt Briner and Coleman Gonzales were team MVPs for Saturday's game. While neither player did anything outstanding, they executed every snap successfully in horrendous conditions. One or two turnovers and the game may have turned out differently. By doing the little things correctly, Matt and Coleman allowed the offense to run successfully.
-Every championship team needs a Matt Salazar. He attends practice faithfully, hustles and represents his team well. His hustle and attitude push his teamates to new heights. He realizes that the team is first and he is second. The Generals and the Colonels may get all the glory, but it is the privates and their willingness to sacrafice that win the war. Good job Matt!
-The Rosehill Community is filled with so many great families that supported our team this week. A few special thanks to, The Gonzaleses, The Smeleks, The McDonoughs, The Frys, Tom Greenfield, The Mills, Andrew and Justin Garray, The Carniegie's, The Schoenvogels, and everyone else that I am unfortunately forgetting.
- Mr. Salazar and Mr. Schoenvogel may be the oldest ball boys in the history of high school football.
-While a majority of the student body is enjoying their Thanksgiving vacation the following students will still be hard at work; Brian Smelik, Matt Briner, Matt Salazar, Chris Salazar, Ryan Eckstrum, Chace Dixon, Corey Toth, Johnny Tumlinson, Chris Barger, Coleman Gonzales and Nathan Ramirez.
-The memories the Eagles are creating will last for a lifetime. 20 years from now former students will speak of the magical football season of 2004. It was the year that 11 boys from a small school in Tomball did what no one thought they could do, to battle for a state championship. Lets hope that the memories are not yet quite complete. Lets hope that the appearance in the title game is one of those memories!
-LETS GO EAGLES!
